IT’S another day and another major outage for Telstra customers.

This time customers of the Aussie telco from Victoria are the ones feeling the pinch.

At present, Reece Plumbing, Medibank and Monash University are among the organisations complaining of the outage on Twitter.

Telstra has been quick to acknowledge the outage.

“We’re aware of an issue impacting some business and enterprise customers in Victoria. We are investigating the cause and working to restore services as soon as possible,” a spokesman told news.com.au

Despite claims the outage is contained to Victoria, Australian network outage tracking website Aussie Outages also shows affected areas in NSW and Queensland.

According to social media, the problem has also affected Jetstar, causing flights to be delayed.

A number of other smaller businesses are also claiming to be affected.

The news follows Telstra chief executive Andy Penn announcing $250 million in network upgrades designed to improve its networks’ resilience.

Recent outages included 375,000 phone and internet customers locked out in May,two outages in March and one in February. Despite these incidents, Mr Penn suggested there was not an increase in problems.

“The number of incidents ... hasn’t actually increased,” he said.

“We have not seen an increase in interruptions over the last period of time but what we can see is those two or three incidents have had a more widespread reaction than has previously been the case.”
